Now I get it. It’s in black and white.
As of today, almost half of Americans asked about whom they prefer to see occupy the White House for the next few years surprised me with their answer. They say they want to see the Mormon guy who is pushing trickle-down economics, got caught saying that about half the country — including seniors and veterans — are lazy losers, has so far been a walking-talking foreign policy disaster, won’t reveal his income taxes, ran a company that perfected outsourcing U.S. jobs, keeps some of his millions in off-shore accounts, has promised repeatedly to end abortion rights, publicly slammed Obama and Congress for agreeing to a car-industry bail-out, invented Obamacare in Massachusetts years ago, has revealed almost no details of how his heavily conservative-criticized budget plan would be implemented, and is the target of every senior-citizen watchdog group in the country.
And I’m expected to believe that this has nothing to do with Obama being black.
Huh.
I continue to watch Romney more and more closely in hopes of seeing what it is that is so attractive to people that they would overlook a long, long list of shortcomings, and rally behind him.
Sorry, but no matter how hard I try, I can’t get past the overwhelming odor of huckster that Romney exudes. He’s like a character straight out of “The Music Man.” When this guy talks, and he never really seems to quit talking, he gives off all the sincerity of a car salesman.
I’m no stooge. I know that all politicians are populists, no matter what they say. Obama has “massaged” his message numerous times to fit the occasion. It’s the nature of these beasts to tell voters what they think voters want to hear — to a point.
But it’s so obvious when Romney does it because he does it so often. He has spent the last several months pandering to hard-line Republican activists, telling them what he thinks they wanted to hear. He thinks they wanted to hear that he would severely slash federal spending while protecting military budgets. He thought they wanted to hear that he would cut taxes for just about everyone, but especially for those who make the most money, because that helps create jobs for those who make less money. He thought these activist “conservatives” wanted to hear that he would set aside concerns about global warming and push hard to make petroleum-based energies as cheap and plentiful as possible. Romney told those calling the shots for the GOP that he was a staunch social conservative who would fight against gay marriage rights, fight against women’s abortion rights, and fight against finding a soft-spot for millions of illegal immigrants.
So now, the guy who sold himself to the country’s far-right is trying to sell himself to moderates and progressives, and people are buying it.
How? Do these people honestly believe that Romney could both want to seriously reduce spending on programs that provide for retirement, retiree health care, unemployment, poor single mothers and at the same time want to ensure there is assistance for retirement, retiree health care, unemployment and poor single mothers?
So why vote for this guy? Because he isn’t black.
The country is chock-full of people who are either uncomfortable with blacks or that outright don’t like them because of their race.
A national story released just a few days ago shows that anti-black sentiment is more prevalent now that it was four years ago. About 51 percent of Americans express “explicit anti-black attitudes” according to the Associated Press story. Another poll that doesn’t ask such questions directly mirrored those results.
One pundit in the story determined that Obama’s race costs him an easy 5 percent of the vote right off the top. Granted, Obama is far from perfect — I personally think he’s the greatest Republican president in history — but since Romney is offering almost exactly what Bush did for eight years that got us into this mess, why else would so many Americans prefer a candidate that can’t keep straight which candidate he is?
The answer, like so many things in this country, is black and white.

You hit the nail on the head! Score!!!!!! Nice to see that someone is finally talking about this. Thanks!
Im voting for Romney cause hes white, alot better than having a black guy that cares more about mexicans than his fellow country men, if he even is from here. I still can’t understand why he can’t produce an actually birth certificate, last time I checked a photo copy doesn’t count!!!
Ignorant bigot. If you can’t handle the real US of A. leave.
Go back to Seattle and hug a tree hippie
Go White People take this country back!!!
Continued tax cuts for the rich,”self deportation,” ending Planned Parenthood, reversing Roe v. Wade, caught in lies about welfare reform and the auto bail out, hidden off-shore investments, reducing teachers, increasing defense spending, refusal to release taxes, flip-flop on FEMA and an Etch-a-sketch campaign. This is better than health care reform and getting out of wars? The wonder isn’t the 47% of American retirees, veterans and two worker families Romney disdains. The mystery is the 47% who support, “failed policies of the past.”
How dare you suggest the answer might be racism in the race? VOTE!
I suspect Heathbar is Perry’s pseudonym! Romney want’s to stop Federal
funding for Planned Parenthood, which amounts to a very small fraction
of it’s budget. Planned Parenthood has many rich benefactors…the
elimination of taxpayers’ dollars would have no affect on the
availability of services there. Romney has stated that, while he is
personally opposed to abortion, he will NOT make an issue of Roe in his
presidency. GM WENT BANKRUPT!! The difference between the bankruptcy
Romney, an EXCELLENT businessman, proposed, and the one Obama’s handlers
forced down our throats is, GM would have emerged a leaner and meaner
corporation capable of competing and succeeding. Instead, Saturn, it’s
”economy division,” was dashed, while GMC, maker of Chevrolet trucks
with GMC badges on them–no economy division, this one–lives on. 13
plants were idled and 1,100 small businesses–dealers–were summarily
informed they were franchisees, no more. Between 200,000 and 250,000
people lost their jobs.
Obama’s record requires all the canards
you bring up to obfuscate the facts…Unemployment, National Debt and,
yes, now, four Americans murdered by terrorists in Benghazi. If the
coverup is, indeed, worse than the deed, this is a BAD coverup…thanks
to the media, we’ll not learn the true level of incompetence at the
State Department until after the election. And you think voting against
all that nonsense is racism?
The messages on this board, including the pathetic article, are nothing more than racism and discrimination. How about choosing a candidate on merit and not on the color of his skin. How about doing away with the pathetic excuse of racism for anyone who doesn’t believe Obama is the best choice going forward. Of course, since Obama can’t stand on a successful record, then it must be racism as to why the majority of Americans don’t believe he’s the best choice going forward. Let’s do away with the race card excuse the Dems and Libs love to fling about when they know they have nothing to stand on…..Dave, why don’t you try to get a job with the Denver Post – you don’t even live in Aurora yet you try to impose your extreme views on us and bash this City nearly every chance you get. The era of objective journalism ended a long time ago with the Sentinel staff.
What an odorous mountain of that which emanates from the south end of a north bound Clydesdale. Far from uniting Americans based on commonalities, Obama picked at a slowly healing scab, transforming it into a festering, open wound.
His handlers, bereft of anything positive to say about his four year record, are PLEASED to inject racism into this campaign. The media, of which Dave Perry would like to consider himself, part (the Aurora Sentinel?!?), reek of the same desperation of Obama/s campaign, which ought to scare the hell out of any reasonable voter.
If this sort of race-baiting were confined to Westword and Sentinel type rags, that would be bad enough (imagine, were Perry to suggest voters NOT vote for Obama because he is black!!). Alas, that’s hardly the case. From the Los Angeles Times to the New York Times, not to mention ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS and CNN, the media have done their best to demonize a successful, devout, squeaky-clean American who truly believes he can do better than the current occupant of the White House.
Obama’s record of ”accomplishments” includes record Deficit spending, 4 MILLION more women below the Federal Poverty Level, 15 million more people on Food Stamps and an energy policy reliant on very high prices for fossil fuels, to justify the cost of inefficient green energy boondoggles. If he were a Republican, someone like Obama would decry such Deficit Spending as being “Un-American.” In fact, that’s what Obama called President Bush’s $458 billion Deficit…what, What, WHAT?!?!?
I’m, at best, lukewarm on politicians. They all say whatever the audiences of which they are in front want to hear. What is more disingenuous than Obama going ”homeboy” in front of black audiences, then heading off to a white tie fundraiser at the home of the guy who bilked taxpayers of $530 million in the Solyndra deal?
Bottom line: Obama made a lot of promises and kept very few. Now, he wants to increase taxes…to continue ”investing” in an education system that rewards the teachers union for it’s financial support, and unsustainable ”alternative energy” schemes which have already cost taxpayers many, many billions of dollars. Abound Solar…Google it. Solyndra is just the poster child for DOZENS of shady, failed, idealistically (and financially–Obama’s campaign bundlers OWN many of these bankrupt companies) selected failures.
This politician has NOT lived up to his numerous promises, instead used class warfare, race-baiting and socialistic policies in a failed effort to ”fundamentally change America.” As usual, I vote, holding my nose, for the new guy. Obama and the media can’t convince me a proven loser is better than an honest, successful opposition candidate, just because he is white.
ALL YOUR STORY IS FROM A LIBERAL BIASED BABOON….NOONE WANTS HEAR YOUR LIBERAL LYING.
And again baboon editor….the truth is both democrats and republicans got us in that mess that you always lie to your readers about when you say bush did it….ok?? LIar??
Dave, years ago i told you that if you stayed at it long enough, you might become a reporter. But with Rocky going down completely, Denver Post and Sentinel are on their way out too. Printed newspaper media now is worth what I said before: Worth what I pay for it, with is nothing. I don’te even buy stuff from ads, since most of our small businesses have closed in past 4 years. Look around you in Aurora, when you visit, at all the empty buildings where thriving businesses were 3 and 4 years ago. Now for Obama: I voted my ballot on 18th (received on 17th) because Obama told us he was black during campaign. “I don’t look like you”, “I have a funny name”, “I would like to use my middle name”, and Joe Biden helped that with “he is clean, and he talks good”. In 79 years I went to school , worked with others, did 26 years in military, retired and went to school 3 years and gained 3 technical certificates and associate degree in accounting (computerized). Also worked and ran a small business few years, but age-taxes-record keeping- city hindrance- all worked to drive me into full retirement while still sane. In all those years I never had a problem with blacks, browns, tans, or other shades, races, religions, other than with a few, individual soreheads who I avoided. But last 4 years, I have been called a honkie, had a young black woman hit trunk of my car in front of King Soopers (Aurora) when she came out of store as front of car passed her and I was barely moving. Also have had old friends shy away after telling me of how their ancestors were brought here in chains. I did not introduce the subject, so who is a racist? MSNBC is pure hatred, but I watch occasionally, to be prepared for questions from those I advise of veteran issues. Also consider this president wrote executive ORDER ON 21 JANUARY 2009, TO PROTECT ALL OF HIS RECORDS TO THAT DATE FROM INQUIRY OR REPORTING. AND MEDIA DID NOT VET HIM BEFORE, AND DO NOT REPORT ANY NEGATIVE SINCE 9 JANUARY 2009. Fox News at least has reporting from both sides (Geraldo, Colmes, Williams, and others) to balance against Hanity , O’Reilly , Dana and others. And don’t foregt Bob Beckel and even James Carville with Mary Maitlin. I won’t much miss Sentinel when it is gone, but I doubt you will be hired by Trump. Benghazi was a disaster, and Obama still does not get it. I worked in military communications, as one of 5 satellite controllers at DCA-Pacific, and also intelligence at W-PAFB, Ohio before. Our Ambassadors should receive security and protection of their bodies, their staff, and especially the classified material in their consulates and embassies, at same level as Administration Cabinet officers or Directors. Ambassador is a presidential stand-in for the president in foreign country, afterall. So figuratively, Al Quada killed the president and his security persons, and destroyed US property.
Hello to my fellow citizens in Co from Seattle. We voted for Obama and we need CO to come thru for Obama. I am countying on you all.
hello all. Vote for Obama beause he is by frar the most honest and well meaning of the two major candidates. How can any respectful person trust r vote for Mitt?
Must we suffer the rants of another brain-dead liberal who, losing in the battle of ideals, and therefore hopefully the election, boils everything down to racism? As a conservative Republican, I very much look forward to the day I will have the opportunity to vote for a Conservative Republican African American for President. I would love for Condoleezza Rice to run. I would have whole-heartedly supported Colin Powell until he endorsed Obama, now I’m not so sure, but there are many very qualified African Amercans that I, and the overwhelming majority of my party would support. Conservatives dislike Obama because he is a miserable FAILURE – not because he is black. When you minimize the issues facing this country by reducing them to an issue of color, you, sir, are the racist! And in your article you refer to Romney as “the Mormon guy?” Who is one demonstrating a biased and bigotted attiutude based on religious preferrence?! You are flaming hipocrite.
