EDITOR:
Last month — as we sadly do every July — we paused to reflect on the tragedy we endured as a community four years ago.
As I — a native Coloradan and resident of Aurora since the age of 4 — reflect on the events of July 20, 2012 I am reminded of the gripping devastation faced by my community. I remember the trauma this travesty caused me and those closest to me. I remember crying with my family, consoling my friends, and feeling a depth of hopelessness that I didn’t even know was possible to feel. I remember the pain I felt on that day and yet also the strength I witnessed by my community in the aftermath of this horrific event.
I know that we are Aurora Strong and through our strength we can unite in order to pass meaningful, common-sense gun safety measures. But that wont happen without action and this fall, my Aurora neighbors and I have a big action item — the presidential election. There’s only one candidate who has stood with the families who have lost loved ones to gun violence, only one candidate who has a record of advocating for common-sense approaches to reduce gun violence, only one candidate who has stood up to the gun lobby — and that candidate is Hillary Clinton.
Please, do not sit this election out. Register to vote — you can easily do this online at govotecolorado.com — and make sure your voice is heard this November.
