DENVER  | A spokesman for Colorado Secretary of State Scott Gessler says his boss was probably unaware he needed to file receipts for $1,400 he used from his office account after he took office.

Spokesman Rich Coolidge says the office fund is similar to the per diem given state lawmakers where no receipts are necessary. Gessler submitted receipts for other money he took from the $5,000 fund.

According to the Denver Post (https://tinyurl.com/9tt847v ), Gessler took what was left in his own discretionary fund in 2011 and used it to give himself a $1,400 payout for daily expenses.

Gessler is already under fire for using state funds to return early from the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla. Colorado’s elections chief says death threats were made against his family, prompting his early return.

  1. How petty can you get? If we want to criticize or question, Gov. Roy Romer bragged on radio just before leaving office that Colorado now had a computer program and system that could track revenue and expenses on a daily basis, report daily, weekly, monthly and predict future of same. Soon afterwards they found it did not work, and Colorado still does not have such accurate count of funding. Lets bring Roy back to explain the high cost of that program that never worked. Costco and Sam’s seem to be able to maintain such a system covering Mexico, U.S. and Canada. I can write a check in any of their stores, and computer compares my ID card they issued, and I don’t even have to show drivers license. Tell me this was not a political smear, same as those aimed at Scott Gessler and Secretary of State workers.

  2. facts are facts Frank. Gessler didn’t know his software wasn’t working when
800 people tried to register to vote recently. So he was UNAWARE it wasn’t
working. This has nothing to do with democrats vs. republican politics.
Gessler is UNAWARE that receipts are necessary for business expenses?
    Give me a break!

  3. Gee Voter. I do believe I read a report that over 100,000 tried to register to vote between 1 Oct to 9 Oct, which crashed the server and the put 2 or 3 more on line to handle the load. Wonder why those enthusiastic, anxious voters waited over 2 years from last election cycle, to ensure they could vote this year. Maybe they were waiting for ACORN to come to them again. Had those in front of stores with clipboards, yet we have 16 voting offices (listed on my paperwork) where folks could register with less probblems. Last time I checked , Scott Gessler heads up office over over 200 employees, same as Mike Coffman, Donetta Davidson, and we had the same complaints. Maybe it was the (R) behind their names, but then we have to ask why voters (majority) want Republicans in that office. Bernie Buscher (D) was exception in recent years, and only lost election in Grand Junction because he led legislation to restore Veterans funds that had been raided in 2003. Gov. Ritter and Bernie promised to restore those funds, to be administered by State VA officials and Veterans Advisory Board appointed by Governor , and approved by Senate. So why not get off Scott’s case, let him do his job, and he will ensure his employees work for Colorado Citizens. Would bet some of them are Democrats, Unaffiliated, Republicans, or other parties. He and they are not out to get you, unless you vote early and often.
