AURORA | A man died Sunday, June 19, after he collapsed in a restaurant parking lot on East Colfax Avenue and was run over by an SUV, Aurora police said.

The man, whose name has not been released, was run over around 9 p.m. in the parking lot of the Taco Mex restaurant at 10909 E. Colfax Ave.

Police said a witness who was in the drive-through lane told police they saw a very intoxicated man walking west on Colfax. The man fell down on the grass but the sprinklers were on, so he got up and stumbled to the parking lot where he collapsed, the witness told police.

The man laid in the parking lot for about a minute before a woman driving a Cadillac Escalade north on Joliet Street pulled into the parking lot, running the man over, police said.

The man was rushed to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The 29-year-old woman driving the Escalade stayed at the scene and was “very cooperative,” police said. She didn’t appear to be intoxicated, and police said she consented to a blood draw.

Police said no charges have been filed and it appears the man who died was at fault. His identity has not been released pending positive identification and notification of next of kin by the Adams County Coroner’s Office.
