AURORA | A weekslong closure of the Sable Boulevard and Exposition Avenue is set to begin at 9 p.m. Sunday, April 3.
The closure comes as construction of the Aurora Line light rail line along Interstate 225 continues, with crews set to install overhead catenary system wiring that will power the trains at Sable and Exposition.
The closure was originally planned to begin around 10 p.m. Friday, April 1, but was delayed due to an event in the area this weekend.
Officials recommend northbound and southbound through traffic use Chambers Road or Abilene Street instead, while eastbound and westbound through traffic can use East Mississippi Avenue or East Alameda Avenue as a detour.
There will be access from southbound Sable Boulevard to Heritage Christian Center for church services only.
Once the Sable-Exposition work is complete, crews will move forward with a full closure of the intersection at Sable and Ellsworth avenues well as Abilene at Exposition. Dates for those closures have not been set.
