Season highlights: One of the best keys to success for any basketball team: have a strong guard who can make things happen with the ball in his hand and a player capable of taking over on the inside. In his second season at Grandview, coach Michael Rogers was fortunate to have both of those elements in the junior duo of guard Lechaun Duhart and post Gaige Prim, who were the primary driving forces for a team that finished 13-11 and had a signature win with a victory over eventual two-time state champion Overland during the regular season. The Wolves received a No. 4 seed in the 5A playoffs and lost by two points to Arvada West. The 6-foot-7 Prim got off to a bit of a slow start as he broke his right hand in a practice at football season and just had his cast removed before the first game of the season. He became more and more of a factor as the season went along. Prim’s two best statistical games came in a 23-point, 12-rebound performance in a 75-57 win over Mullen on Feb. 12 and he had 23 points and 13 rebounds in an 80-77 victory over Highlands Ranch on Jan. 16. His second-half performance was a big key in the Wolves’ win against Overland as he scored 19 points and pulled down eight rebounds in his first head-to-head game against Trailblazers’ star De’Ron Davis. Prim will play on Team East in the A-Town All-Stars game, opposite Davis.
Prim vs. Aurora teams: Regis Jesuit (8 points & 8 rebounds), Cherokee Trail (12 points & 14 points), Smoky Hill (22 points & 12 rebounds, 13 points & 11 rebounds), Eaglecrest (13 points & 9 rebounds, 8 points & 6 rebounds), Overland (19 points & 8 rebounds, 7 points & 5 rebounds)
