• The Centennial League dual meet wrestling season nears its conclusion Jan. 28 with a variety of matchups in store. Cherokee Trail pays a visit to Eaglecrest, while Overland and Smoky Hill take their home mats against Cherry Creek and Arapahoe, respectively. Wrestling is slated to begin at 7 p.m. at each location.
• The Centennial League makes the turn for its second round of basketball matchups on Jan. 29, which includes Cherokee Trail seeking revenge when it pays at 7 p.m. visit to Cherry Creek. Grandview plays host to Arapahoe in the rematch of a four-point Wolves’ win earlier. Ten of Aurora’s 11 boys teams are in action and nine city girls teams, including the Cherokee Trail girls playing host to Cherry Creek at 7 p.m. looking to payback a 12-point loss earlier, while Smoky Hill gets a 5:30 p.m. home contest against an Eaglecrest team it lost to by 11 points previously.
• The Aurora Public Schools Championship girls swim meet is set for Jan. 29-30 at Aurora Central High School, with prelims slated for 5:10 p.m. Jan. 29 and finals at 12:10 p.m. the next day after diving prelims take place at 9:30 a.m. Also in the water will be the Continental “C” League Championships hosted by Regis Jesuit on Jan. 29, followed by “B” League competition on Jan. 30 at 11 a.m. at Heritage.
• The 32nd Les Mattocks Invitational wrestling tournament on Jan. 30 at Denver’s Abraham Lincoln High School provides a quality late-season test for city teams from Aurora Central, Gateway, Overland, Regis Jesuit and Vista PEAK. Wrestling begins at 8:30 a.m. for a tournament that includes 34 teams from multiple classifications. Eaglecrest, Grandview and Smoky Hill visit the Mile High Classic at Thomas Jefferson, while Cherokee Trail is at Brighton and Rangeview heads to Thornton.
• Ralston Valley plays the Cherry Creek co-op ice hockey team at 3:15 p.m. Jan. 30 at Family Sports Center as the Bruins continue a difficult stretch against powerhouse teams. Cherry Creek — which plays a late game the previous night against Resurrection Christian — will try to deal the Mustangs their first loss of the season.
• The Cherokee Trail boys and girls basketball teams play a doubleheader at Pepsi Center Feb. 1, with the Cougars taking on Brighton in both contests. The girls game is slated for a 1:30 p.m. on the home floor of the Denver Nuggets, followed by the boys at 3:30 p.m.
• The Vista PEAK boys basketball team plays host to Fort Morgan at 7 p.m. Feb. 2 in a key battle among teams at the top of the Colorado 7 standings. The Mustangs won their first six league games, with the Bison just behind them at 5-1. The Vista PEAK and Fort Morgan girls precede that game at 5:30 p.m. on the same floor in another impactful league contest.
• Eaglecrest plays host to Overland at 7 p.m. Feb. 3 in a Centennial League boys basketball rematch of a game won previously by the Raptors. The Trailblazers were without standout De’Ron Davis in the first meeting and should be at full strength this time. The Grandview girls and boys seek a sweep of Cherry Creek in contests scheduled for 5:30 & 7 p.m.
• National Letter of Intent Signing Day is Feb. 3, with a variety of Aurora prep athletes scheduled to finalize their scholarship offers with college programs.
