DENVER | One of Colorado’s largest craft brewers is being sold to beer giant Anheuser-Busch.

The maker of Budweiser announced Tuesday that it was buying Breckenridge Brewery for an undisclosed amount and adding it to its craft and import brand unit, The High End.

Littleton-based Breckenridge is Colorado’s sixth-largest craft brewer and on track to produce 70,000 barrels of beer this year. It distributes beers like Vanilla Porter and Avalanche Ale in 35 states.

Anticipating criticism from craft beer fans, Breckenridge president J. Todd Usry said in an open letter online that the brewery will continue to make its own decisions about the beers it creates and there are no plans to change its employees or culture. He thanked fans for their support and urged them to stick with the brewery.
