AURORA | An Adams County state legislator under fire for comments made about Planned Parenthood after a fatal shooting siege in Colorado Springs has drawn the ire of a national political group.

JoAnn Windholz

EMILY’s List, a top group advocating for women in politics, announced this week they have added state Rep. JoAnn Windholz, R-Reunion, to their “On Notice” list, which they deem “a top target for Democratic takeover” in the next election.

Windholz, whose House District 36 includes north Aurora, recently posted comments on Facebook about Planned Parenthood being responsible for the deadly shooting at their Colorado Springs clinic.

“Violence is never the answer but we must start pointing out who is the real culprit,” Windholz wrote on her Facebook page. “The true instigator of this violence and all violence at any (Planned Parenthood) facility, is (Planned Parenthood) themselves. Violence begets violence. So (Planned Parenthood), YOU STOP THE VIOLENCE INSIDE YOUR WALLS.”

The comments prompted the start of a recall campaign against Windholz.

Windholz is the second Colorado elected official to be put “on notice” by EMILY’s List, joining U.S. Rep. Mike Coffman, R-Aurora.

“Representative Windholz is one of the worst when it comes to putting a dangerous and extreme ideological agenda ahead of the interests of Colorado women and families,” said Jessica Post, senior director at EMILY’s List. “She has worked to prevent women in Colorado from accessing health care, while simultaneously voting against commonsense teen pregnancy prevention and family planning programs. Her outrageous comments about Planned Parenthood which blames the horrific Colorado Springs attack on the victims themselves makes it clear that she will never stand up for Colorado’s women and families. That’s why EMILY’s List is determined to send Representative Windholz packing in 2016.”

Lynn Bartels, spokeswoman for the Colorado Secretary of State’s office, said the recall petitioners would need 4,715 valid voter signatures to force the recall, which is 25 percent of all votes cast for the House District 30 race in the last election.

  1. I have never used Emily’s list for anything, and don’t intend to. By same token, when will these elitist political groups get it through their heads, their managing, massaging, and changing candidate to fit their mold is wearing thin. Very thin. I just do not pay any attention to them, but did read this on Sentinel. Anyone who does take their opinion, and vote should not be voting. They should go put their heads under the pillows in shame for not doing own research, making own decision. Or leave their head in the sand, because they deserve what happens. I don’t.

  2. Progressives = new Nazi. All these Elitist Progressives are using media as their assault rifles in hopes to shoot down ideological opposition. Watch out.. these words will morph into real bullets..

Where is ACLU in protection of 1st Amendment rights of Windholz? Wait.. I see them in the firing squad..

    1. No one is saying that she can’t SAY these things, she’s perfectly free to do so. And she has.

And we are perfectly free to see her out of office for doing so.

The problem conservative fundamentalists have is that they believe they should suffer no consequences for their words. YES, you can be a bigot, and YES, you can be a prickly ball of hate towards anything you wish, but NO, you don’t get a free pass to do that and then claim to represent the will of the people. You want to see “New Nazis?” Go to a Trump rally.

      1. I doubt you know what the word “bigot” means.
From her statement the only hatred she showed was towards the vicious murder of unborn children by Planned Parenthood.

  3. Free Speech, Recalls, all of this is a part of Democracy in action. We have seen it several times in the past few years; Colorado gun legislation, Jeffco Board of Education to name a few. I admire politicians who are honest enough to say publicity how they feel and presumably this will be reflected in their voting records and other actions in their elected capacity. The public and interest groups are better off being informed of the true essence of their elected officials, and they should take whatever actions they feel appropriate in support, or against those politicians.

  4. Nothing upsets a liberal like someone shining light on the evil that liberalism supports.

Liberalism is a SATANIC mental disorder.
