AURORA | Football teams with championship hopes need their marquee players to step up in the playoffs and Jack Stoll rose above everything Friday night.
The University of Nebraska-bound tight end had a monster second quarter in Regis Jesuit’s Class 5A state first round playoff game, as he caught three touchdown passes from quarterback Michael Pavlakovich in a 26-point second quarter that propelled Regis Jesuit past Rangeview 33-7 in an all-Aurora postseason contest.
Pavlakovich threw four touchdown passes in all — hitting Stoll on passes of 17, 24 and 7 yards and Alfred Jones with a 45-yarder — and linebacker Drew Schlegel contributed to the explosive quarter with an interception return for a touchdown for Regis Jesuit (8-2), the No. 2 seed in Region A.
Regis Jesuit delivered a win for coach Danny Filleman in his Colorado state playoff debut and will play at home again in the second round against third-seeded Legacy (8-2), which downed Boulder on Thursday night.
Sophomore quarterback Jaelin Odegard threw a 38-yard touchdown pass to senior Elijah Reed in the second quarter for the lone points for seventh-seeded Rangeview, which finished the season 4-6 in the first year under head coach Justin Hoffman.
