DENVER | The Colorado Economic Development Commission has approved nine projects that could create more than 2,600 new jobs over the next eight years and offered up to $40 million if the companies can prove they created the jobs.

The largest credit went to a private residential mortgage company in California, which told state officials it would create 1,371 Colorado jobs in exchange for nearly $23 million in tax credits.

The state keeps most of the names confidential because the companies are seeking incentives in other states as well and have not committed to the projects. Instead, the companies get code names with a brief description of what they offer.

One firm, Code named “Project Pine,” is considering Denver for a second location. Average salaries would be $84,000, said Sam Bailey, senior industry development manager for the state’s office of economic development.

Another prospect is named Fido TV, a new streaming TV channel for dogs. The company already has strategic partnerships with the American Kennel Club.

Bailey told the commission that Project Lineup, a food and beverage manufacturer approved last spring for a $1.4 million to create 75 jobs, had picked Florida.

Two requests — dubbed Project Suspenders 1 and Project Suspenders 2 — came from the same company, a media and Internet firm based on the East Coast.

Suspenders 1 promised to add 405 jobs in Denver with an average wage of $77,852. Suspenders 2 would create 445 jobs in Jefferson County with an average wage of $59,184. Combined, the two projects would receive $11.7 million in credits.

Project Six was approved for $749,930 in incentives. The software firm in the health-care industry currently employs 200 at its Broomfield headquarters, but it is considering expanding its headquarters to add 26 new jobs at an average wage of $97,200.

Project Bucket, approved for $556,346 in incentives, is an East Coast outdoor-recreation firm considering moving its headquarters to Colorado. The company began considering the state after Gov. John Hickenlooper created the Colorado Outdoor Recreation Industry Office in June. But the company is also being courted by Utah. State officials say Bucket would bring 33 jobs to the state, according to the Denver Post (https://tinyurl.com/phxbh8r ).
