GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. | For the first time in more than a decade, a marching band will take the field during halftime at a Colorado high school’s homecoming game.

The Post Independent reports (https://bit.ly/1LRW6hd ) that Glenwood Springs High School band director Tami Suby says she’s spent six years working with students in band, but was reluctant to start a marching band, which could end up taking over the music program.

But when Chane Smith came on as a second director, the timing seemed right. He led a pep band last year and says he’s proud of the students who will march onto the field Friday night.

Sophomore Row-Gaddis, who plays the clarinet and tenor sax, says marching band is an interesting new challenge because it involves not only sound but a visual aesthetic.
