Woman killed by Denver police identified

DENVER | A woman shot and killed last week by Denver police has been identified as 31-year-old Jamie Fernandez.

The Denver Office of the Medical Examiner says Fernandez died from multiple gunshot wounds after she was shot in the alleyway last Thursday night. Police say the shooting occurred after Fernandez fired at officers.

Two Denver officers involved in the shooting have been placed on modified duty. They have not been identified.

According to police, officers were chasing Fernandez, on foot, down the alley at about 11:30 p.m. when she turned and fired a gun at them. They came in contact with her while investigating a suspicious vehicle.

The incident remains under investigation.
