DENVER | The Denver district attorney has ruled a police officer will not face criminal charges in connection with the shooting of a teenager who later took his own life.
The Denver Post reported Monday that Denver District Attorney Beth McCann issued a letter about the April 10 shooting of 17-year-old Anthony Solano Vasquez.
Her letter to police Chief Paul Pazen says the officer who shot Vasquez was authorized to use deadly physical force.
McCann says the officer, who was not identified, was attempting to prevent Vasquez from escaping arrest and believed he was a threat to public safety.
Authorities say Vasquez died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound after police chased an SUV stolen by three teenagers.
Police say Vasquez fired at police and the officer shot him in the shoulder.
