AURORA | On a long list of goals for their highly anticipated 2012-13 season for the Grandview girls basketball team is winning its own tournament.

The players in the Wolves’ large senior class has done a lot of winning in the past three seasons, but have yet to claim the championship of the Grandview Invitational.

Coach Josh Ulitzky’s team has its chance, as Grandview — which recently took over the No. 1 ranking in Class 5A in the Denver Post’s coaches poll — held off a strong 4A team, D’Evelyn, 63-57 in a semifinal on Thursday night at Grandview High School.

The Wolves (3-0) will take on Sand Creek, a 61-16 winner over Cherokee Trail in the other semifinal, in the championship game at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

Senior Adaeze Obinnah led Grandview with 18 points, senior Natasha Edge added 11 and junior reserve Brittany Bender had 10 big points — including a number of putbacks in a key stretch in the fourth quarter — to lead Grandview, which held off a D’Evelyn team that knocked down 9 3-pointers.
