"Drowsy Chaperone" due at the Vintage Theatre in June

Paul Page as "Man in Chair" in the Vintage Theatre's upcoming production of "The Drowsy Chaperone."

It’s been less than a month since the Vintage Theatre Company made its Aurora debut at 1468 Dayton Street with an ambitious production of “The Joy Luck Club,” and the troupe isn’t wasting time in planning its next production. The company’s production of “The Drowsy Chaperone” by Lisa Lambert, Greg Morrison, Bob Martin and Don McKellar will kick off on June 1. Carol Petitmaire will direct the show.

The musical kicks off with an unnamed character listening to a favorite record, a setup that kicks off an elaborate staging of an imagined musical procession. The Man in the Chair’s favorite record – “The Drowsy Chaperone” – follows a pampered Broadway starlet, a greedy producer, a chaperone, a debonair groom, a Latin lover and a pair of gangsters who double as pastry chefs.

The cast includes Paul Page (Man in Chair), Jodi Brinkman (The Drowsy Chaperone), Rachel Turner (Janet van de Graaff), Steffan Scrogan (Robert Martin), Jimmy Miller (George), David Ambroson (Aldolpho), Deborah Persoff (Mrs. Tottendale), Rich Cowden (Underling), Brian Murray (Feldzieg), LeighAnn Gould (Kitty), Jennifer Comber (Trix), Daniel Seifert (Gangster 1) and Matthew Davis (Gangster 2). Ensemble members Timothy Campbell, Danielle Hawkins, Zach Page, Juliette Petersen, Clarissa Hope Stranske, and Kevin Walton round out the cast.
