The Arvada Center will kick off the summer with its own take on “Legally Blonde: The Musical.” Penned by University of Colorado Boulder graduate, Heather Hach, the show follows the basic plotline of the 2001 film of the same name. The musical, which features music and lyrics by Laurence O’Keefe and Nell Benjamin, tells the story of Elle Woods, a bright and perky sorority girl who applies to Harvard Law School to win back her boyfriend. The production follows successful takes on big-budget Broadway shows at the Arvada Center, 6901 Wadsworth Blvd., including last year’s production of “Hairspray” and the recent mounting of “Ragtime.” Tickets start at $35. It’s the last chance to catch the Aurora Fox’s free production of “Once On This Island” at the Founders’ Green public space at Stapleton. The musical, with book and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens and music by Stephen Flaherty, will run at 6 p.m. on June 9 and 10 at Founders’ Green, 2900 Syracuse St. in Denver. The show serves as an official summer kick-off of sorts for the Fox, which just wrapped up its final main stage production of the season. Information: 303-739-1971 or aurorafoxartscenter.org.
