AURORA | It’s never too soon to kick off the holidays.

In fact, there’s an untapped market for getting out ahead of the Thanksgiving week crush of Black Friday shoppers and post-Black Friday recovery.

Untapped, that is, save for the Southlands Shopping Center, which will host its sixth annual Holiday Hometown Parade and tree lighting starting at 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21.

In addition to Mayor Steve Hogan being in attendance, the parade will feature floats, the Eaglecrest and Gateway high school marching bands, various local Scout troops and a visit from Santa Claus to help flip the switch on the Southlands Christmas tree’s lights.

The festivities are free and open to the public.

Outside of the parade and tree lighting, Saturday night also mark the opening of The Pond — Southland’s ice-skating rink — and the shopping center’s Santa Photo Experience.
