Good, Godspell. It’s back again.
In the push to revive revived revivals from the days of long hair and madras, “Godspell,” revived, comes to the Miners Alley in Golden for a healthy run starting in March.
If you don’t remember the musical, you’ll remember the songs and music: “Day by Day,” “Godspell,” “Prepare Ye The Way Of The Lord,” “Learn Your Lessons Well,” and “By My Side” made charts in some markets.
The biblically based show, popular in the era of “Jesus Christ Superstar,” “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” et al, is based on the Gospel according to St. Matthew. In the show, Jesus spreads The Word using songs, games, stories and jokes.
The cast includes Matt Kok (Jesus), Drew Horwitz (Judas/John the Baptist), Jacquie Jo Billings, Ashley Brown, Jenna Haimes, Leslie Randle, Felicia Tuttle, Ian McCauley, Gabriel Morales and Carter Edward Smith, according to publicist Gloria Shanstrom. The show’s directed by Brenda Worley Billings.
The Golden production is a regional premier of the most recent Broadway revival, which received good national press for trimming and some new arrangements. The 2,000-year-old story remains the same.
