Quidnunc, whose name comes from the Latin  “what now,” is out and about as often as possible  to bring you news overheard in elevators,  rest rooms and spied in various e-mail boxes.

QUID HAS HEARD that you may be confused or interested about who’s on which team in Colorado’s professional political wrestling game. Seems that most of this confusion and ennui is centered on a spate of recalls of recently elected legislators after controlling Democrats had their way during this year’s 120-day legislative reign. If you were among the very few able to avoid news of the political melee under the gold dome, it centered on sex ed, guns, oil and that fact that most people really don’t care about any of that. Determined to pass state legislation that Republicans have obstructed for years, Democrats became frenzied progressive law machines, essentially making members of the minority party cry as the world outside the Capitol paid little attention. Colorado Republicans, unable to pull any lever but one, have pulled hard on the “recall” bar. They’ve made sure to tell uninterested voters that this is not partisan but political. Lawmakers in purple districts who vote for gun control and oil safety must go, they say. Coincidentally, they’re all Democrats. Somehow, recall targets include Pueblo Democratic House Rep. Bri Buentello, who actually voted against the offending Democratic bills that Republicans say are the only basis for recall. Closer to home, Republicans are now going after Democratic Centennial state Rep. Tom Sullivan, who last fall beat GOP state Rep. Cole Wist, who voted previously for tame gun control. Wist, however, is the region’s most celebrated opponent of the drama, saying he thinks the recall against his victorious former opponent is a sham. That prompted an outpouring of support for the Republican Wist from Democrats, who were far less supportive during last year’s election against fellow Democrat Sullivan. If you’re as confused and apathetic as your faithful hack, you have only to refuse to sign anything but “off” for the next couple of months.

AND THAT’S ALL THE NEWS THAT FITS
