BRECKENRIDGE, Colo. | A plan to tax lift tickets at the Breckenridge Ski Resort to pay for parking and traffic up(grades has fallen through after Vail Resorts and the town couldn’t agree on terms.
The Summit Daily News reports (https://bit.ly/1OLWYHN ) that talks broke down because Vail Resorts, which operates Breckenridge, opposed the lift tax proposal and wanted more modest parking upgrades.
The town proposed a new parking garage, but the ski operator wanted a smaller structure. The town has also proposed expanded free bus service.
The newspaper town council could seek an admissions tax on any company operating a for-profit activity or event that includes an admissions fee in Breckenridge. Vail Resorts considers that a lift-ticket tax.
The council will put the tax question on the November ballot.
