Aurora hoops season extended with premier A-Town All-Stars game March 26
ALEX HAWKINS
School: Vista PEAK
Year: Senior
Height: 5-foot-11
2015-16 averages: 9.9 points, 3.5 assists, 2.7 steals
Season highlights: In his second season with the Vista PEAK program, coach Gary Childress felt good about the progress of his team, which won a third consecutive Colorado 7 league championships and racked up a 19-6 record, which included a Class 4A playoff win over Thompson Valley and a loss to Denver South in 4A’s Sweet 16. Vista PEAK’s roster had just three seniors in all — though two were starters — and guard Alex Hawkins played a key role in his fourth season as a varsity player. The Bison point guard, who also played on the school’s football team in the fall, led the team in both assists and steals per game and came just a shade from becoming the team’s third double-digit scorer on his way to All-Colorado 7 first team honors. Hawkins knocked down 26 3-pointers to rank second on the team and he reached his season-high in points of 19 twice, first in a 76-69 win over Gateway on Dec. 18 and again in a 85-73 win over Fort Lupton on Jan. 26. He will play for Team West in the All-Town All-Stars Game.
Hawkins vs. Aurora teams: Gateway (19 points & 6 rebounds), Rangeview (8 points & 3 assists)
