2015-16 averages: 7.2 points, 3.7 assists, 1.5 steals
Season highlights: Another year, another Class 5A state championship for Overland’s supremely talented group, which featured eight seniors determined to finished with back-to-back state titles and made it happen despite some challenges along the way. Coach Danny Fisher’s Trailblazers turned heads in Las Vegas when it won the Platinum Division of the Tarkanian Classic and posted an overall record of 5-0 against teams outside of the state of Colorado. The senior core included De’Ron Davis — a 6-foot-10 Indiana University signee — Alijah Halliburton and Reggie Gibson, all holdovers from last season’s state championship winner, along with Jervae Robinson, who returned to the program where he played his first two seasons before moving away as a junior. Gibson’s scoring average dropped a bit this season as he was asked to play a different role than he was last season, but his ball handling, defense and work within the Trailblazers’ system was vital. He racked up a season-high 21 points in a 76-39 win over Chaparral on Dec. 11. Gibson will play on Team East in the A-Town All-Stars Game, opposite his three teammates on Team West.
Gibson vs. Aurora teams: Cherokee Trail (11 points & 4 assists); Regis Jesuit (1 point, 4 assists); Smoky Hill (2 points, 15 points & 8 steals); Eaglecrest (2 points, 7 points, 4 points); Grandview (2 points)
