Season highlights: Another year, another Class 5A state championship for Overland’s supremely talented group, which featured eight seniors determined to finished with back-to-back state titles and made it happen despite some challenges along the way. Coach Danny Fisher’s Trailblazers turned heads in Las Vegas when it won the Platinum Division of the Tarkanian Classic and posted an overall record of 5-0 against teams outside of the state of Colorado. The senior core included De’Ron Davis — a 6-foot-10 Indiana University signee — Alijah Halliburton and Reggie Gibson, all holdovers from last season’s state championship winner, along with Jervae Robinson, who returned to the program where he played his first two seasons before moving away as a junior. Davis signed with Indiana University after a long courtship and his presence — especially on the defensive end — formed the backbone of Overland’s title run. He recorded 13 double-doubles, scored a season-high 26 points in an 86-79 win over George Washington in the season-opener Dec. 1 and posted a triple-double with 16 points, 11 rebounds and 11 blocked shots in a 72-57 win over Cherokee Trail on Feb. 17.

    Davis vs. Aurora teams: Regis Jesuit (17 points & 8 rebounds & 9 blocks); Smoky Hill (10 points & 8 rebounds, 5 points); Cherokee Trail (22 points & 15 rebounds & 6 blocks, 16 points, 11 rebounds & 11 blocks); Grandview (9 points, 13 points); Eaglecrest (10 points & 10 rebounds & 7 blocks, 11 points)
