Season highlights: The dynamic duo of seniors Elijah Coleman and Ladarius Thomas provided plenty of firepower for an Aurora Central team that had one of its finest seasons in quite awhile in 2015-16. Coach Ian Calvert’s Trojans racked up an 18-7 record, finished second to Rangeview in the EMAC standings and won a Class 5A state playoff game for the first time since 2009-10 before suffering a close loss to eventual Final Four qualifier Chatfield in the second round. Both Coleman and Thomas finished with more than 1,000 points for their careers and they were the highest-scoring teammates in Aurora prep basketball with a combined average of 37.3 points per game (19.0 for Coleman and 18.3 for Thomas). Coleman — who has signed to play with Division II Black Hills State — scored in double figures in all 25 of Aurora Central’s games and his season-high came in a 29-point effort in an 84-54 win over Palisade on Dec. 5, a mark he matched in a 77-41 victory over Adams City on Feb. 5. Coleman will play for Team West in the A-Town All-Star Game.
Coleman vs. Aurora teams: Smoky Hill (11 points); Rangeview (17 points & 5 rebounds, 15 points & 5 rebounds); Gateway (22 points, 6 rebounds & 5 assists); Hinkley (11 points)
