DENVER | A federal case has been dismissed against a former Colorado Springs man who claimed to be a Marine wounded in Iraq.

The 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals Monday threw out its own opinion issued in January that upheld the Stolen Valor Act passed by Congress in 2006. The move follows the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision last week that lying about one’s military service is Constitutionally protected speech.

The appellate court’s ruling involves Rick Strandlof, who was also known as Rick Duncan, who lied about receiving military medals.

Strandlof no longer faces federal charges.
