DINOSAUR, Colo. | With the Powerball jackpot estimated at a record $1.3 billion, thousands of Utah residents are crossing the Colorado border to purchase what they hope is the winning ticket in the town of Dinosaur.
The Craig Daily Press reports (https://bit.ly/1SM5D0N ) that Christie’s Liquor co-owner John Justice said he had $48,000 in Powerball between Thursday and Sunday evening. Christie’s is one of three lottery ticket retailers in Dinosaur, which sits about two miles from the Colorado-Utah border.
At $2 per ticket, that’s 22,000 lottery tickets.
Lottery tickets are not sold in Utah, which can send residents to bordering states when jackpots get high.
The next Powerball drawing is Wednesday. No one has won a jackpot in the multi-state game since November.
