Police are looking for a man who investigators say robbed eight stores in the metro area over the past eight days.

Investigators have dubbed the man the “Waistline Bandit” because during the robberies he lifts his shirt to show a handgun tucked into the waistband of his pants.

Police said the man’s robbery spree started July 4 in Denver and since he has robbed a total of eight stores — four in Denver, four in Aurora.

On July 11, the man robbed a Subway sandwich shop at 2648 Parker Road and less than an hour later robbed a Game Stop at 17062 E. Quincy Ave.

Police described the robber as a white or Hispanic male, 5 feet, 8 inches tall to 5 feet, 10 inches tall, with a medium build. In most cases he wears a dark colored knit cap during the robberies and does not cover his face.

The Aurora Police Reward Fund is offering up to $2,000 and Crime Stoppers is offering up to $2,000 for the arrest and conviction of the man.

Police are asking anyone with information about the robberies to contact Detective Brian McClure at 303-627-3232 or Sgt. Bob Wesner at 303-627-3152. Callers can remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 720-913-STOP (7867).
