GRAND JUNCTION | A Palisade teenager has been ordered to spend a year on probation for posting messages on Facebook threatening to use a handgun at her school in western Colorado.

The Daily Sentinel reports (https://bit.ly/1nAeua2) that the 13-year-old was sentenced on Wednesday after pleading guilty to interference with staff, faculty or students at an educational institution, a misdemeanor.

The girl was expelled from School District 51 after Dec. 15 arrest for the threats against Mount Garfield Middle School in Clifton, but the judge ordered that she must submit to a formal threat assessment if she’s accepted to enroll at another school in Colorado.

The girl was arrested after a post on social media showed a handgun resting on the girl’s backpack. Police did not found a gun in the girl’s possession.
