LEXINGTON, Ky. | The woman assaulted by a former Army Ranger who bolted from a Lexington courthouse shortly before being convicted of rape has been taken into protective custody.
Police say 29-year-old John Buckley IV cut off an ankle bracelet and left the Fayette Circuit Courthouse on July 12, just minutes before the jury returned a guilty verdict.
Victim Services Director Mary Houlihan says Buckley is considered dangerous. Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Todd Bradbury told WKYT-TV in Lexington (https://bit.ly/NKD4R2 ) that he’s concerned about the safety of the police officers who investigated Buckley as well as those searching for him.
Buckley’s father, John Buckley III of Colorado Springs, Colo., told WLEX-TV in Lexington (https://bit.ly/ND0kzA ) the family doesn’t know where Buckley is and that he wants his son to surrender.
