Authorities searching for handcuffed person suspected of assaulting sheriff’s deputy in far east Aurora

AURORA | Investigators with the sheriff offices in Arapahoe and Adams counties are currently looking for a handcuffed person accused of assaulting a deputy in Aurora Thursday afternoon.

Deputies are searching the area around the Fox Ridge Mobile Home Park on far East Colfax Avenue for a Hispanic male in his late teens who “assaulted a deputy and fled,” according to tweets from the Adams County Sheriff’s Office.

The deputy who was assaulted was not seriously injured, police tweeted.

The fugitive is described as being 5 feet, 3 inches tall, and wearing a black t-shirt and black Adidas pants.

Investigators with both local sheriff’s offices are searching private yards near 26900 E. Colfax Ave. using dogs and a drone, but have yet to find the suspect. The area is located between E-470 and Powhaton Road.

A secure perimeter that had been established during the search was lifted around 1:45 p.m. Thursday, according to tweets from the sheriff’s office.

Police said investigators have identified the suspect, but have not released his name. Officials are expected to release the suspect’s photograph later in the day.

Police encouraged anyone who sees anything suspicious in the area to call authorities.

“It goes without saying but if anyone happens to see a male in handcuffs in the area, please call 911,” police tweeted around 1:40 p.m.
