Authorities investigate 2 bomb explosions, days apart, near Quincy Reservoir

AURORA | Local and federal authorities are investigating a pair of explosions that occurred in the southeast corner of the city in recent weeks, according to officials with Aurora Fire Rescue.

Investigators said “an explosive device” was detonated at about 5:30 a.m. on Dec. 25 in the 18000 block of East Mansfield Drive. No one was injured, but two homes were damaged in the blast.

Less than two weeks later, authorities said another device exploded in the 4600 block of South Pagosa Circle, damaging another home. A resident originally called 911 and described hearing shots fired at about 4:45 a.m. Jan. 7 adjacent to their home near Quincy Reservoir.

Investigators later found “a detonated explosive device,” but did not describe the incendiary instrument.

Authorities with Aurora Fire Rescue, the Aurora Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are asking residents with potential photos or security camera footage of the blasts to contact the Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867.
