AURORA | Aurora police are still looking for a driver who fled after striking and seriously wounding a 55-year-old man as he was crossing a road in the city’s Sunnyvale neighborhood Wednesday evening.

Investigators said the driver of a gray-and-beige SUV struck the man at approximately 9:15 p.m. Jan. 28 near the intersection of Havana St. and East Fourth Way.

The injured pedestrian sustained serious injurious and was considered in critical condition at a local hospital as of Friday morning, according to Officer Crystal McCoy, spokesperson for the Aurora Police Department. McCoy said the man was “illegally crossing the road” when the driver struck him.

Authorities had not developed additional leads on locating the driver or the vehicle involved in the collision as of Friday, according to the McCoy. However, traffic investigators believe the car involved has “significant frontend damage,” including a cracked windshield and a missing sideview mirror on the passenger side.

The area where the collision occurred was closed for about an hour and a half as authorities canvassed the area.

A total of 11 pedestrians died on Aurora roadways last year.

Investigators are asking anyone with potential information related to this collision to call the Denver Metro Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867. Tipsters can remain anonymous and be eligible for rewards up to $2,000.
