Aurora police investigating shooting during alleged Friday robbery

AURORA | One of three men moving into an Aurora apartment building Friday opened fire after three other males allegedly attempted to rob them at gunpoint, leaving one accused robber dead and two injured, Aurora police said Saturday.

In a statement Saturday, Aurora Police Department spokeswoman Judy Lutkin said the investigation into Friday’s shooting continued. She added one of those shot was pronounced dead at a hospital, a second remained hospitalized in serious condition, and the third received injuries that are not life-threatening and was in custody on unrelated charges.

The three movers have been cooperating in the investigation, police said.

Police did not release any names.

District Attorney George Brauchler said two of his prosecutors responded to the shooting scene. What still must be determined is whether the shooter acted in self-defense.

“If you are placed in danger of serious bodily injury or death, you have the right to defend yourself,” Brauchler said.
