2 shootings Sunday, 1 at Aurora Hoops Park, leave 3 injured; police seek witnesses

AURORA | A shooting at an Aurora basketball park resulted in an injured man Sunday, several hours before a juvenile shot himself and wounded a juvenile girl he was with.

In the earlier shooting, police were called to Hoops Park, near East Sixth Avenue and Norfolk Street, some time before 1 p.m. Sunday after reports of a shooting. A man shot and injured there found his own way to a nearby hospital.

Police said his condition there is stable.

“Circumstances leading up to the shooting are unknown,” police said in a tweet. “No suspect info at this time. Witnesses to the shooting are asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867. Tipsters can remain anonymous and be eligible for rewards up to $2,000.

In the second Sunday shooting, police were called to the area near East 18th Avenue and Airport Boulevard before 10 p.m. to investigate two juveniles suffering gunshot wounds.

It “appears (the) male shot himself and injured (the) female in the process,” police said. It was unclear whether the boy shot himself intentionally.

Both the boy and the girl were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment of “serious” injuries.

Police are asking that anyone with information about that shooting that has not already spoken with police to call Aurora investigators at 303-627-3100.

No other details were released.

People with guns just continue using them. It’s such-a-wonderful country we’ve got going on.
