AURORA | Aurora police say two people have been arrested and face murder charges in connection with the shooting death of man last week inside his car.

Aram Cooper, 25, and Crystal Purcell, 42, both face first-degree murder charges in the death of 39-year-old Paul Colin Stone, shot dead inside his car Sept. 17 near the 900 block of South Ironton Street, police said in a statement.

Police were called to the area of East Tennessee Avenue and South Ironton Street at about 12:45 p.m. to investigate a reported shooting.

“When officers arrived, they found an adult male, seated in a vehicle suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound,” Aurora Police Sgt. Faith Goodrich said in a statement. “He was transported to the hospital and received care but sadly, he did not survive.”

Police did not release any other details at the time.

“Detectives have been working to develop leads on the ones responsible by interviewing witnesses and analyzing evidence, and today, are announcing the arrest of two individuals in relation to this homicide,” police said.

Both face charges of first-degree murder.

The case now goes to the district attorney’s office for the 18th Judicial District in Arapahoe County.
