1 teenage boy shot dead, another injured inside car Friday during Aurora shooting

AURORA |  One 16-year-old boy died and another 16-year-old was injured Friday night shooting in northwest Aurora, police said in a statement.

Police were called to the area of East 12th Avenue and Ironton Street at about 7 p.m. Friday on reports of someone shooting at someone inside a car, police said.

“Officers arrived on the scene and located a 16-year-old male suffering from a gunshot wound, seated in the driver’s seat,” according to a statement by Aurora Police Officer Francisco Saucedo. “The juvenile was transported to the hospital, where he later tragically died from his injuries.”

Not long after, another boy, 16, later identified as a passenger inside the vehicle that the gunman fired at, arrived at a local hospital with a gunshot injury, Saucedo said. He is expected to survive.

The shooter fled the scene before police arrived, police said.

Neither of the boys were identified. The slain boy will be identified by the Arapahoe County coroner office at a later day, which is standard police policy.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867. Tipsters can remain anonymous and still be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000, police said.
