AURORA | A woman died Monday night after the car she was driving crashed into a semi truck on Interstate 70 in Aurora.
The crash happened around 7:25 p.m. on I-70 near Tower Road and left the stretch of highway closed from Tower to East Colfax Avenue until about 1:30 a.m. as police investigated the crash.
According to police, the semi may have been experiencing mechanical troubles and was driving slowly when the crash occurred.
Investigators aren’t sure why, but at some point a gold Pontiac Grand Prix rear-ended the semi and became wedged beneath it. The woman driving the Pontiac later died of her injuries.
Police said the driver of the semi is being cooperative with investigators and they do not believe alcohol or drugs was a factor in the crash.
