AURORA | One person was shot in the leg just before noon Thursday, Nov. 12, in the parking lot of a Safeway store at 18730 E. Hampden Ave.

A witness at the scene said he and a friend pulled up in their car into the parking lot when they noticed some kind of skirmish between two or three Hispanic males and another man.

At one point someone threw a snowball at the man’s car, and the witness said it appeared they were “messing” with the car and the driver. Just then, about four shots were fired, and the witnesses hit the ground and then ran to a nearby liquor store. Inside, they were telling store owners to call police. Two men then ran inside, one of them shot in the leg with blood all over his shirt. The wounded man was “skinny” and the other heavier man was helping him. The heavier man told the shooting victim, “we gotta get outta here,” and the two left. According to the witness’ account, the wounded man was one of the men harassing the man who shot him.

It’s unclear whether an ambulance transported the victim to a nearby hospital or whether someone the victim knew took drove him for help.

No suspect information was immediately available from police.

  1. Just after before noon is just a little before afternoon, but not noon. The victim may have been taken away by ambulance, or maybe not, but that was probably a little before afternoon or later. Hope that helps.

    1. I agree. “just after before noon” is not in the everyday lexicon. To explain improper or incorrect grammar is is a disgrace to the journalistic profession. Trying to communicate a contrived phrase that people can’t understand strikes of cavalier smugness. This truly is not up to Aurora Sentinel’s standards. Instead, AM or PM or late morning or early afternoon is always understood. Also, too bad for the shooter, he is probably traumatized. But, hats off for a well placed shot.

  2. The injured man was put in one of the cars that had their back window shot out. That’s what I was told by someone who saw it.
