Boy hurt in Aurora scooter crash

AURORA | A juvenile is in critical condition after being struck by a car this morning while riding a scooter.

The boy, whose name has not been released, was struck around 4:15 a.m. at East Iliff Avenue and South Peoria Street.

Police said a mini van headed west on Iliff had a green light when it passed through the intersection and struck the scooter, which was headed north on Peoria.

The boy on the scooter was wearing dark clothing and the driver of the van didn’t see him in time, police said.

The driver of the van is cooperating and police said they don’t believe excessive speed or alcohol were factors in the crash. The boy on the scooter likely caused the crash by running a red light, police said.

The intersection was closed until about 8 a.m. while detectives from the Aurora police traffic section investigated.
