Bank robbery suspects caught after leading police on chase through north Aurora

AURORA | Two bank robbery suspects are in custody following an armed heist and chase Friday morning in north Aurora near East Colfax Avenue and Airport Boulevard.

Aurora police spokesman Sgt. Chris Amsler said the first call came in around 9:20 a.m. reporting an armed robbery at a TCF Bank at East Sixth Avenue and Chambers Road.

A short time later officers spotted the suspects, two black males, driving in a silver Hummer near Sixth and Laredo Street, Amsler said.

The officers followed the men to the Friendly Village mobile home park near East Colfax Avenue and Airport Boulevard — about two miles from the bank. There, the driver sped off and a brief chase ensued, Amsler said.

The vehicle stopped in the mobile home park and one suspect was taken into custody at the vehicle while the other jumped from the car and fled, Amsler said. Officers arrested the fleeing suspect a short time later.

Less than 20 minutes after the initial report of a robbery, both suspects were in custody.

Police found a handgun in the suspect’s Hummer, according to police on radio transmissions.

Airport Road near the mobile home park was closed at the end of the pursuit to aid police investigators. Parts of the mobile home park remain closed as police collect evidence

This is a developing story and more information will be released as it becomes available.
