Aurora police announce arrest in Queen Ashby slaying

AURORA | A man wanted on a first-degree murder charge connected to the slaying of a 20-year-old Aurora woman whose body was found last month in Clear Creek County has been arrested, police say.

Aurora police announced on Twitter Friday afternoon that officers from the department’s fugitive team had arrested 21-year-old Shawrae Butler.

Police have not said when or where Butler was arrested or released any other details about how investigators found him.

Police had announced Thursday that Butler was wanted on a first-degree murder charge stemming from the slaying of Queen Ashby.

A motorist found Ashby’s body April 8 near Highway 103 in Clear Creek County. At first, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation didn’t know Ashby’s identity but after releasing a composite sketch of her and asking the public for help, the agency said they were able to ID her.

If convicted on a first-degree murder charge, Butler would face mandatory sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
