Aurora man jailed after fourth DUI

AURORA | An Aurora man convicted this week of driving drunk for the fourth time is behind bars awaiting sentencing after judge ruled he is a danger to the community.

Leonard Roybal, 57, faces between two and six years in prison after an Arapahoe County jury found him guilty of driving drunk in October 2015.

According to a statement from the Arapahoe County district attorney’s office, the judge in the case ordered Roybal held without bond pending sentencing “because of the risk he poses to the community.”

Roybal — who had a blood alcohol level three times the legal limit after his most-recent DUI — will be sentenced July 14.

“This is the type of case that highlights the need for the felony DUI law,” District Attorney George Brauchler said in a statement. “Some people refuse rehabilitation and insist on driving drunk and endangering others. Kudos to Judge Phillip Douglass for recognizing the risk and keeping this defendant locked up.”
