AURORA | A Colorado Army National Guard recruiter from Aurora is facing felony theft charges after Adams County prosecutors say he improperly took $28,000
in referral bonuses.
Christopher Thomas Clark, 25, was arrested Jan. 17 and later charged with one count of theft, a class three felony that could carry a jail sentence of 12 years in prison.
According to a statement from Adams County District Attorney Dave Young, Clark was charged for “fraudulently receiving $28,000 in referral bonuses for recruits.”
It wasn’t immediately clear Tuesday where Clark worked as a recruiter, but Sue Lindsay, a spokeswoman for Young’s office, said Clark was assigned to a unit from Watkins. Prosecutors said he lives in Aurora.
Clark is due in court next month to be advised of the charges. He is free on $10,000 bond.
“This investigation has the full support of the Colorado National Guard,” Maj. Gen. H. Michael Edwards, the Adjutant General of the Colorado National Guard, said in a statement. “If the allegations are true, this behavior is unacceptable and inconsistent with or stewardship of taxpayer resources and the trust of the citizens we serve.”
