GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. | Interstate 70 through Glenwood Springs is open Thursday now that rockfall work has been delayed.
The highway closed Wednesday as planned but downdraft winds prevented a helicopter from delivering steel beams and attached fencing to workers on the canyon wall above the interstate.
The Glenwood Springs Post Independent (https://bit.ly/2adHIWv) reports the work might be rescheduled for the second week of August.
The fences are being installed to try to prevent of a repeat of February’s rock slide which sent boulder the size of small cars onto the road. The slide closed down the canyon for nearly a week, the longest since I-70 was built through the canyon 24 years ago.
