AURORA| One person died and four people were rescued on Monday morning when fire swept through a townhouse in Aurora.

The fire started around 12:40 a.m. in a townhouse on Newark Street, near East Second Avenue and Peoria Street.

When firefighters arrived they said they found flames shooting from the roof. Despite that, firefighters said there was no significant damage to neighboring townhouses.

A neighbor told 7NEWS three children, their mother and grandmother lived in the townhome.

The four people rescued from the fire were taken to local hospitals, there is no report yet on their condition.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
