Coroner identifies 12-year-old girl killed walking to school in Aurora last week

AURORA | The 12-year-old girl who died last week after being struck by a pickup truck driver on her way to school has been identified as Jenna Solomon, according to the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office.

The driver of the pickup truck struck Solomon around 8:20 a.m. on Feb. 5 near the intersection of East Iliff Avenue and South Vaughn Way, according to Aurora Police.

Authorities determined Solomon was not using the marked crosswalk when the westbound driver struck her with his vehicle, according to police. The girl was halfway across the road when she stepped off the median and was struck.

Solomon was taken to a hospital with “critical injuries” following the collision, police said. She died three days later on Feb. 8.

Police do not believe or other factors caused the collision.

The identity of the driver has not been released.

An Aurora teenager has petitioned the city to add a crosswalk to the area where Solomon was struck, Fox 31 reported yesterday.

The city said it will collect data while analyzing the request.
